Eye strain (referred to as Asthenopia by physicians) is an ophthalmological condition which manifests itself as a sense of fatigue brought on by the overuse of the eye muscles. When focusing intensly on visual task such as reading or using a computer for a prolonged period of time the muscles in your eyes tighten.

This tightening of the eye muscle may lead to the eyes becoming; dry, irritatible, red and generally uncomfortable. While eye tightening is the main cause of eyestrain other factors can worsen the condition and increase the symptoms of eye strain.

Eye strain can have a debilitating effect on people but the treatment for eyestrain is relatively straight forward and easy to manage. For those who don’t currently suffer from eyestrain there are a few simple eye excercises that can help prevent the onset of both eye strain and the symptoms associated with it.
