Prevention of eye strain
Preventing eye strain will involve changing your work/reading areas to minimize the things which cause eye strain. Following simple rules like the 20/20/20 rule will also help to prevent eye strain.
Changing your work station:
- Computer screens should be slightly below your eye level - at about 20* degrees.
- Make sure your work station doesn’t face towards windows or bright light sources
- Clean your monitor of dust
- Take regular short breaks every two hours for between 10 and 15 minutes to relax your eyes and body
- Eliminate glare and screen reflections by moving or tilting the computer or getting an anti-glare screen
- Each workstation should have an adjustable shaded copy lamp that can be aimed by the operator without causing screen reflections.
Following the 20/20/20 rule:
Every 20 minutes you should focus on an item 20 meters away for 20 seconds. This lets your eyes refocus and will greatly diminish the symptoms of eye strain. If you easily lose track of time set an alarm that will go off every 20 minutes so that you don’t forget.
