Treatment of eye strain
Treating eye strain is dependent on the factors which have caused your eyes to become strained in the first place. It’s important to identify what has caused your eyes to become strained and then follow our prevention tips before starting any type of treatment, otherwise the treatment may be working but you are unlikely to notice it as you continue to damage your eyes through bad habits.
If you’ve already followed our prevention tips then we also suggest that you do some simple eye exercises to improve the strength and durability of your eye muscles. This should help to prevent any future eye strain. Now that we have covered what to do to prevent future eye strain it’s time for some treatment solutions:
Eye lubrication:
When your eyes become strained they often also become dry. If your eyes are not properly lubricated then you will start to experience other symptoms of strained eyes. Your eyes are usually lubricated by your tear ducts which produce small ‘tears’ which are then applied to your eyes via your eye lids when you blink. If your dry eyes are caused by strained eyes then it will be either be because of decreased tear production or poor eye lid function. Both of these can be solved by using artificial tears to help lubricate the eyes. Fake tears can be purchased at your local chemist over the counter or you can purchase them online from amazon.
Computer glasses:
Even if you don’t usually need to wear glasses using specially formulated computer glasses can help with the treatment of eye strain. This is because they will help to regulate the contrast and glare which are two of the main factors that contribute to eye strain. These are also sold at your local chemist or they can be purchased from amazon.
LCD Monitors:
If you are still using old CRT monitors then it is strongly suggested you upgrade to a LCD monitor if you suffer from eye strain. This is because CRT have low refresh rates which result in flickering images that damage your eyes and as CRT monitors become older they also lose their focus which causes more strain on your eyes. All good computer shops should sell relatively cheap LCD monitors or you can buy one online from Amazon for around $200.
Remember to follow the eye strain prevention methods and do some eye exercises and hopefully you won’t need any eye strain treatments in future.
